Rugby League International Federation to appoint Match Officials Manager

The Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) is seeking to appoint a Match Official Manager who will be the most senior match official administrator in international rugby league.

The role, which will be the first such appointment made by the RLIF, will provide an independent person who will be responsible for the co-ordination of the training and development of match officials and also the appointments to international fixtures. This will include the creation of and being the chair of a Match Official Committee made up of representatives from the Asia Pacific Rugby League Confederation (APRLC) and the Rugby League European Federation (RLEF). These will be joined by representatives from the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) and the Rugby Football League (RFL).

Danny Kazandjian, the RLIF Global Operation Manager, commented upon the appointment:

“It is the responsibility of the RLIF to have a supply of well trained, excellently prepared match officials for our growing number of international matches and this is a vital part of our mission as the international federation. This new and important role will become the public face of the RLIF in all matters relating to match officials.

“Last year we had close to 100 international matches in all disciplines of the sport and that is only going to increase. It is vital that the training and the development of our match officials keeps pace with that growth in participation so that there is a clear pathway for match officials from the grass-roots to the very highest levels within the sport.

“We are looking for an individual who has the knowledge, the experience and the personal skills to cover the whole spectrum.

“The match official manager role is wide-ranging and will be responsible for introducing an international match official  framework of qualifications, protecting the sport’s integrity by ensuring the deployment of a consistent and high quality corps of match officials to global matches and events, leading the corps of match officials in RLIF tournaments and working closely with colleagues in the confederations to ensure a coherent approach on all officiating matters.

“It is an exciting position and one that will have a great impact on rugby league at a global level.”
