Vanuatu Rugby League announce the sad news that Jason Pakoasongi has passed away

The RLIF offers deepest condolences to his family, friends and wider Rugby League community of Vanuatu

The Vanuatu Rugby League (VRL) pays tribute to Jason Pakoasongi who passed away today in India after bravely battling cancer. Jason leaves behind a wife and four children and all thoughts are with his family in this truly devastating time.

Jason was the elder statesman of the VRL, up until his final Test Match vs the Solomon Islands in 2016, having the exclusive honour of playing in all Vanuatu's first five Test Matches, and still jointly holds the record for most Test Matches played. Jason also jointly holds the Test Try Scoring record with three tries in those five matches, starting four matches in the centres and one from the interchange bench.

Jason also played in the first ever Vanuatu Team at the International 9's tournament in Sydney in 2012, was Captain of the Vanuatu South-Sea Island tour throughout Queensland in 2013 and also played for the Vanuatu Invitational team in 2014 on Suncorp Stadium as a curtain raiser to an NRL trial.

Jason was also a mainstay for the Port Vila Fire Ants Representative team and Port Vila Powerhouse Rugby League Club in the Port Vila Rugby League competition.

REST IN PEACE - 18/10/1977 - 10/04/2018
